Freya and dad out for a walk on a ☀️ SF day #dadlife
After 5,000ft of climbing up from the ocean @kingthenate and I reached the top of Kaloko Road. It may be the steepest single climb I’ve ever done. At the very top someone wrote “warrior” at the peak. It was a great ride but not one that I’m going to be doing anytime again soon 🤣 📷 by Nate
The force is strong with this one. Happy Star Wars Day and May the 4th be with you!
I believe in the power of routine to start your day and drive productivity. Every morning I get up, say hi to Freya and @nicole , exercise for an hour and then the essential part for any new parent: coffee! Ever since I was a barista in college I’ve loved the morning ritual of making an espresso. It’s simple, rewarding and literally energizing!
One of the things I’ve had on my bucket list was to pass the first level of the Master Sommelier training (the introductory course ). After many months of flash cards, practicing deductive tasting and the intro course I passed the test. The next level is the “certified” test which is much harder and requires you to blind taste wines, name what they are and pass a service test. I’m starting to study now so wish me luck!
I hope everyone has enjoyed a restful holiday season. One of my favorite holiday traditions is cooking with @nicole . This year, we added to that tradition and created a #thingsorganizedneatly with some of our baking supplies, ingredients, and a few of our most tasty cookie creations! I hope you all have a warm and wonderful holiday season, enjoying your favorite traditions, and creating new ones, too.
Now you can follow hashtags on Instagram! Following a hashtag is just like following a friend. To get started, search for a topic you’re interested in or tap on a hashtag from any post. When you find a hashtag you like, open the hashtag page and tap the follow button. You’ll begin seeing top posts from that hashtag in your feed and the latest stories in your stories bar. One of my favorite hashtags is #bookstagram . I’ve recently started posting about what I’m reading to connect with other book lovers. I just finished The Signal and the Noise by Nate Silver, an investigation into our ability to predict future events. I’m excited to learn what other people are reading by following #bookstagram .
I’ve been lucky to be able to travel to beautiful places around the world on my bike. Last year I rode around Utah and the Grand Staircase National monument. We’re so lucky to have these places and if we don’t protect them it’s possible we won’t be able to share them with our children. Last week this administration ordered a reduction of the size of this monument by 50% - an unprecedented move for such a fragile place. Let’s not take for granted the things we as a country have fought so hard to earn and protect. The environment is something @nicole and I care about deeply. I hope, as a nation, we can find a way to preserve and protect our country’s beauty for generations to come.
Today is #GivingTuesday , a day to help others by giving your time, donations, or your voice to the causes that matter to you most. This year, @nicole and I are donating to the San Francisco SPCA, because of the joy that @dolly brings to our lives every day. The SF SPCA is committed to fighting for the welfare of animals in San Francisco and beyond. They are one of the oldest humane societies in the United States, and the founders of the no-kill movement. As a result of their efforts, San Francisco has the lowest euthanasia rate of any major city in the United States. If you want to learn more about their mission, you can click the link in my bio. I’m proud to support the work they’re doing, and so is this happy pup. #SFSPCA
Happy two years @nicole ! 😍 I can’t wait for our little girl to arrive so she can meet her beautiful, intelligent and loving mom 😘
@Dolly wishes everyone a happy Halloween! 🎃 This year she asked to be a Lion but we really think she was angling for a bunch of new toys 😝
Last week I sat down with @mrporterlive to discuss Instagram’s focus on craft, design and kindness. The article is up now as part of The Journal on mrporter.com - as part of the article we did a fun photo shoot here in the office so I’m sharing a couple of the best shots 🙌🏻

Last week I rode nearly 800km around Japan. I left the pristine streets of Tokyo, through the dense forests around Shirakawa Mura, to the cultural center of Kyoto. The route was demanding but the views and experiences made it worthwhile. As tired as I was at the end of each day, I stayed up sampling local food, learning more about the villages we were staying in, and connecting with other passionate cyclists. I reached out to @tokyocyclist on IG and he was nice enough to show me around! While I am happy to be back at home with @nicole and @dolly , I am grateful for the experience and friendships built along the way.
Today I rode 100mi in rural Japan through forests and in canyons along rivers. About half way in we turned a corner and saw this! Japan may be one of the most beautiful places on earth—especially when it's pouring rain 🇯🇵
I’m happy to share that @nicole and I are expecting a baby girl in January! Some of my favorite moments on Instagram over the years have been following along as my friends and teammates have become parents and share that experience. I can't wait to join in! I am so lucky that I get to be Nicole’s husband and the father of our little girl. 🎉
Today on vacation I met @chrisfroome , the winner of this year's Tour de France, for a training ride. Although I've been cycling quite a bit it was challenging just to keep up on the descents! It was massively fun and I can't thank them enough. Good luck at the @lavueltaaespana guys! Photo: @cjwurf ✌🏻
Not many rides end looking like this but when they do you take a #bikeportrait 🇫🇷
This week, my friend and teammate Joy-Vincent passed away. It's a tragedy, and I’m a loss for words for how to describe how much I will miss him. He brought a positive and enthusiastic spirit that lifted me and the Instagram family over the years of working together. JV stood for everything IG stands for. He stood for craft, showing kindness without expectation of gain, and looking at the world through a lens of curiosity. These values are stronger at IG because of him. He was also one of the most talented designers I’ve ever worked with. His skill influenced our new campus, our logo and our app. He made a lasting impact that will go on for the life of Instagram. I speak for everyone at Instagram when I say, we will miss him dearly. Original photo by @banjowen
While @jimmiejohnson spends most of his time on four wheels as a NASCAR driver, between races he's often on two as an avid cyclist. Today he finished his qualifying lap and we met up for a ride. Cycling is such a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Thanks for coming out Jimmie!
